Zoom is a popular and useful remote conference and video meeting tool. However, not everyone is comfortable sharing videos unless requested. Some people want to display images instead of videos in meetings. How does one do that? Let’s find the answer here, where we tell you how to display images instead of videos in Zoom.
Although it’s easy to disable the video in Zoom, it will be replaced by your name normally. Now, pictures are always better than text, even if it’s just your name. So why not save it?
Let’s dive deeper into displaying images instead of your name and video in a Zoom meeting.
Show Images Instead of Videos or Names in a Zoom Meeting
It’s not rocket science to show your picture in Zoom. You need to set the profile picture in Zoom. As a new user, you won’t do it in Zoom yet. So, the time is now. After setting the photo, it will automatically appear on the screen to change the name if the video is inactive.
Following are the detailed steps for both mobile and PC applications.
Save Image Instead of Video or Name in Zoom on PC
There are two ways to change or add images in Zoom on a PC.
Method 1: Add a Picture Before Joining the Meeting
For this, open the Zoom application and click the initials of your name in the upper right corner. Select Change My Image from the menu.
You will be taken to the web version of Zoom. Click on the Change on the picture icon.
Then, click Upload and add the image of your choice. Adjust the image to indicate the area that you want to display. Finally, click Save.
Note: Images must be less than 2MB.
After you save it, open the Zoom desktop application. You will see your image in the upper right corner.
Then, deactivate your video by clicking Turn off my video when you will join the meeting or click Stop video when you are in a meeting. You can even right-click on the video and choose Stop Video.
Pro Tip: Use Alt + V (Windows) and Command (⌘) + Shift + V (Mac) shortcut to enable or disable video.
Your image will replace the video.
Method 2: Add Images in a Zoom Meeting
If you are already in a Zoom meeting, right-click on the preview screen of your video. Select Add or Edit Profile Image from the menu. Stop the video, and you will see your picture.
Show Images Instead of Videos on Zoom Mobile Apps
To do this, launch the Zoom application on your Android or iPhone. Tap on the Settings tab at the bottom. Tap your name.
Then, tap on the Profile photo and add a picture either from your gallery or take a new one.
Now, deactivate your video before joining the meeting. Or you can tap the Stop Video option at the bottom of the meeting.
How to delete a profile picture
If you cannot delete the profile picture completely from the mobile app Zoom, you should try the web version. For that, open web.zoom.us. Log in with your Zoom account. Click My Account at the top. Then, click Delete under your picture.
Tips and Tricks for Profile Pictures
Here are some useful tips related to images in Zoom.
See Profile Pictures of Others
When you are in a meeting, you can see the participant’s profile picture by stopping their video. That is only possible if you are the meeting host. To do this, right-click on the video preview screen and select Stop Video. You must give them permission to show the video again because they cannot do it themselves.
Hide Participants with Profile Picture
If someone turns off their video and you only see their profile picture or name, you can hide the participant from the screen. They will still be part of your video and can see your video if it’s active.
To hide non-video participants, right-click the preview window for that person in your meeting. Select Hide Non-video participants.
To see it again, click Total non-video participants at the top. Select Show Non-video Participants.
Always Show Profile Image
If you want to always turn off the video so you don’t have to turn it off repeatedly when joining a meeting, Zoom offers a great feature for that. That way, other people will always see your profile picture only.
To do this, click on the settings icon in the Zoom application and open the Video tab. Check the box next to ‘Deactivate my videos when joining meetings.’
A picture speaks a thousand words
If your internet speed is slow or you don’t want to display your video, display images as a good alternative. However, don’t use an unpleasant picture as your profile picture in Zoom.
